This weekend, Netflix is bringing a documentary about a basketball legend, the first part of the new season of one of the platform’s most popular TV series, and a rom-com starring two beloved comedy actors. Last weekend, Netflix added Bad Boys and Bad Boys II, the coming-of-age drama Call Me By Your Name, Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, the musical comedy Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, and Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, along with the documentaries Pamela, a Love Story and Gunther’s Millions, the teen comedy-drama series Freeridge, and the adventure drama True Spirit.
Unlike last weekend, which saw the arrival of a bunch of licensed content, this weekend Netflix is taking it easier, with the addition of the Bollywood thriller Thunivu, season 1 of MTV’s Floribama Shore, the Argentinian movie The Substitute, and season 1 of the Chilean crime series Chromosome 21. As for original content, Netflix will welcome a documentary about legendary NBA star Bill Russell, the first part of season 4 of You, and a rom-com movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher. Bill Russell: Legend
Netflix’s catalog of documentaries, especially sports-related ones, continues to grow, and its latest addition is Bill Russell: Legend. It follows the remarkable life and legacy of NBA superstar and civil rights icon Bill Russell, featuring the last interview with Bill prior to his passing in 2022 as well as access to his personal archives. On the court, Russell went on to lead each and every one of his basketball teams to championships – off the court, Russell was a force in the fight for human rights, marching with Martin Luther King Jr., leading boycotts in the NBA over racist practices and speaking out against segregation, all of which earned him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It’s the story of Debbie (Reese Witherspoon) and Peter (Ashton Kutcher), best friends and total opposites with different lives: Debbie craves routine with her son in Los Angeles, while Peter thrives on change in New York. When they swap houses and lives for a week, they soon discover that what they thought they wanted might not be what they actually need.
